Gardai have confirmed that a man in his 20s is in a serious condition at Letterkenny University Hospital after he was assaulted in Letterkenny last night.

The man, who is understood to be local, was attacked by another man close to the Port Roundabout around 3am.

The victim was rushed to hospital but Gardai say his condition is not life-threaenting.

A spokesman for the Garda Press Office told Donegal Daily they are seeking any witnesses to the assault.

“Gardaí in Lletterkenny are investigating an assault on Ramelton Rd at approximately 3am this morning. A male in his 20’s was taken to Letterkenny Hospital with injuries described as serious but not life threatening following an altercation with a another male.

“Investigation ongoing and witnesses asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Garda Station on 074-9167100.”

The Port Road area remains closed off to traffic this morning as officers carry out their investigation into the assault.

Passers-by said blood stains were visible on the footpath where the assault took place.
