Delight for Dunleavy as Cork City win FAI Senior Cup

There was delight for Ballybofey man Johnny Dunleavy as he got his hands on the FAI Senior Cup yesterday following Cork City’s 1-0 win over Dundalk.

The former Wolves star is the Cork City captain, but he unfortunately was unable to play any part in the game due to a knee injury he sustained earlier in the season.

But despite his absence on the playing pitch, Dunleavy played a big role off it, and was duly asked up to collect the trophy after Sean Maguire’s late injury-time winner in extra-time.

Cork avenged last season’s defeat to Dundalk in the FAI Cup final, and cup success is rich reward for John Caulfield’s side who pushed an incredible Dundalk side all the way in their quest for a league title.

We’re sure there are some sore head on Leeside this morning, and for the next few days perhaps.

Dunleavy posted this picture (above) with the following message on his Facebook timeline, “Bringing this lad back home…some night ahead!!!!”

Well done to Johnny and all the Cork City players and staff on a great achievement.
