A man who made a number of calls to the local ambulance service was found by Gardai crossing four lanes of busy traffic.

Sean Fahy, 47, had contacted the local emergency services on August 24th last on a number of occasions.

He appeared at Letterkenny District Court yesterday charged under the Public Order Act.

The court was told that Gardai eventually caught up with Fahy crossing four lanes of traffic from the Clanree Hotel to the Dry Arch Complex on the outskirts of Letetrkenny.

Gardai found that Mr Fahy was intoxicated and was arrested after he was abusive to Gardai.

Inspector Michael Harrison told the court that the accused man had a total of 116 previous convictions, many of which were for public order and traffic violations.

Solicitor Michael Shiel said his client had battled alcohol for many years but had now remained sober for the past three months.

He is trying to put his life back together and volunteers at the local White Oaks Rehabilitation Centre and also at a local charity shop.

He said he also visits his elderly parents who live in Galway.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until January 19th to monitor Mr Fahy’s behaviour and also relaxed his bail conditions so that the accused would have to sign on at Letterkenny Garda station just one day each week.
