Dozens of speeding summonses continue to be thrown out of courts across Donegal each week because of a loophole in the law.
A number of cases which came before Letterkenny District Court yesterday were struck out by Judge Paul Kelly.
Judge Kelly was left with no option after defendants claimed they had not received summonses to their home address.
Hundreds of cases of speeding across Donegal have been thrown out in recent months because the letters were not sent by registered post.
Because the letters are not signed for, there is no proof that the letters were delivered to the address where the speeding summons was sent.
The Garda Press office has previously admitted that summonses issued by the privately-operated speed camera company are sent by ordinary post.
The loophole has proved a legal nightmare for courts since as far back as 2011 when we reported that dozens of cases occurred before Judge Kelly in Buncrana District Court.
Yesterday four operators of the Go Safe Speed cameras appeared to give evidence at Letterkenny court.
However the vast majority of their cases were thrown out because defendants claimed they had not received the summons demand to pay their speeding fines.
All said they would have paid the fine if they had received the summons.
