Has the John Lewis Christmas ad ruined the magic?

The much-anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad has been released to the world. At first it seemed that the heart-warming ad would give everyone something to smile about after the chaotic week in politics.

The high-end British store known for their tear-jerking festive campaigns released their ad this morning.

It was widely shared online as people were touched by the tale of Buster the Boxer and his family.

The simple narrative about a dog at Christmas has gained backlash from angry parents who are now facing awkward questions.

In the ad, we see a father assembling a trampoline in his back garden on Christmas Eve. An assortment of wildlife animals come out to enjoy a good jump around – while the family’s pet Buster watches longingly from indoors.

Come Christmas morning, the family’s little girl is amazed to see a brand new trampoline with a bright red bow. She runs outside, but Buster gets there first and it seems all his Christmas wishes have come true.

(Parental Warning)

Controversy has already sprung up over the ad, as parents are complaining that a certain big man in red is nowhere to be seen. The little girls’ parents are seen organising the gift, which has raised questions about where Christmas morning presents are coming from.

The magic of Christmas is all about believing – so has this latest John Lewis ad, which has become a Christmas institution on television, created doubts?
