Irish Netflix users warned of ‘phishing’ scam

Irish cyber security watchdog ESET have issued a warning following the circulation of an email scam.

The harmless looking email titled ‘Netflix cancellation’ may read something such as; “We’re sorry to say goodbye. We’ve cancelled your Netflix Account. This change will be effective . If you’ve changed your mind and you would like to continue, simply click here: to enjoy TV shows & movies without interruption. We hope you enjoyed the service – and we’d love to have you back someday.”

The provided link will ask you to fill in your personal details, including bank details.

Phishing, the act of attempting to obtain sensitive information, has become popular in Ireland, with scammers pretending to be the Revenue Commission, iTunes, and even AIB throughout this year.

If you encounter a suspicious email, you should ignore, delete, and report the email.

For more information on how to recognise phishing you can check out ESET’s guide.
