The Wee Glee Singers from Buncrana, aged 6 – 14, have reached both coasts of America with their recording of ‘The Ballad of 1916’.

The singers are a community singing group of 25 boys and girls from all over Inishowen, and part of The Music Box in Buncrana

Their recording of ‘The Ballad of 1916’ has reached both coasts of America.

Choirs led by Buncrana’s own Mary McKeever will sing it as part of their Christmas programme this year in San Francisco, and in New York City this coming Saturday, one of their small stepped streets is to be named ‘Easter Rising Way’ in commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising.

New York City Council member Elizabeth S. Crowley’s chief of staff has been in touch to say they’d love to play it at the start of the naming ceremony and credit Wee Glee in their programme!

It is a nice way to end 2016, and our commemoration of our history through song.
