Finesse Gymnastics Club competed at the GymSTART Challenge last weekend in DCU Sports Complex, Dublin – and enjoyed a hugely successful weekend.

The GymSTART Challenge is a relatively new event run by Gymnastics Ireland & it gives gymnasts an opportunity to execute gymnastics floor skills appropriate to their ability levels.

The 30 participating gymnasts from the club brought home an amazing 1 Gold, 7 Silver, 13 Level Seven, 4 Level Six, 3 Level Five, 1 Level Four & 1 Level Three GymSTART Challenge level medals.

Gymnastics Ireland hosted the GymSTART challenge competition in DCU Sports Complex this year with two events being held around the country. This year saw over 700 gymnasts attending the event with another 700 expected at the Cork event in two weeks time.

The GymSTART challenge is a progressive, inclusive, award scheme for young gymnasts which also include coaching courses and workshops for gymnasts that wish to stay in the sport after they have finished competing.

The GymSTART programme contains 10 progressive levels of gymnastics skills ranging from level one where the gymnast performs basic skills such as a straddle or pike sit, up to level 10 where they will have to execute advanced skills like an unsupported back flip.

Each gymnast had to perform a routine encompassing seven out of ten perfect elements in order to be awarded a medal, and all 30 of Finesse’s participating gymnasts certainly did themselves, their parents and their club really proud.

Several weeks of intensive training & hard work showed what the girls can achieve and it’s smiles all-round.

Finesse Gymnastics Display Club have once again lived up to their name and wowed the judges with “finesse” on the mat.

Congratulations and well done to those participating gymnasts at the event.

These include: Adele King, Kayleigh Gallagher Kenny, Ellie Maloney, Nicola Canning, Sequoya Mc Gettigan, Julia Migut, Ella Martin, Gráinne Mc Cann, Lucy Boyle, Amy Russell, Mia Boyle, Neasa Coyle, Amy Timoney, Brooke Mc Cauley, Caoimhe Carlin, Ita Mc Gee, Grace Coyle, Demi Crossan, Aoife Diver, Tamika Armstrong, Susie Lavender, Caoimhe Gallagher, Niamh Gallagher, Sarah Healy, Lauren Mc Menamin, Aoife Haslette, Rihanna Friel, Sophie Mc Kenna. Yetis Bella Gallagher & Amy Bovaird.

A special congratulations must also go to two senior members of the club who acted as national assessors at the event. Well done Ellie King & Rachel Canning!
