Rory Gallagher has confirmed that Paul Callaghan will become the Donegal goalkeeping coach for the forthcoming 2017 season.

Former Celtic FC, St Patrick’s Athletic and Finn Harps goalkeeper James Gallagher has been forced to step down from the role due to family commitments.

Gallagher helped Glenswilly win a Donegal SFC title this season, but was forced to retire from professional football due to a succession of knee injuries.

Former Donegal goalkeeper Paul Callaghan will replace the outgoing Gallagher – and will bring a wealth of experience to the role.

Donegal manager Rory Gallagher told Donegal Sport-Hub, “James was a brilliant coach and a brilliant man in our group.

“James has great experience and he worked really well with our goalkeepers.

“James managed the change from Paul Durcan to Mark Anthony McGinley really well and our goalkeepers all liked working with him.

“I would like to thank James for his services and we look forward to working with Paul, who has also given Donegal tremendous service over the years.”
