New footbridge to bring the Twin Towns closer together

The Twins Towns is to get a new cycle/footbridge over the River Finn between Ballybofey and Stranorlar.

Local area Councillor Patrick Mc Gowan has welcomed an update to this weeks Local Area meeting that the TII / Council had appointed Doran consultants to design the project.

The new cycle footbridge will be attached to the outside of the existing bridge facing the Sean Mac Cumhaills GAA grounds.

The new bridge design is now complete and will be lodged with Donegal County Council planning office straight away .

Cllr McGowan has lobbied senior Managment in Donegal County Council and the TII ( NRA) for sometime now and is delight at today’s response .

He said the existing footpath on Stranorlar bridge is completely inadequate and are less than a meter in places hence the urgency .

“The fact that this is a National Primary road crossing the river Finn between Ballybofey and Strangler servicing one of the busiest routes in the county made this a priority in my opinion.

“These path ways are extremely busy with thousands of pedestrians crossing in both directions every week. The commitment from the TII and the Council to bring this project to the planning stage has to be welcomed and I have every confidence that with a favorable planning decision funding will be made available to go to tender and construction .

“I wish to thank local roads manager Garrett Doherty and Donegal Co Council TII design office engineer Roger Ryan for bringing this project forward,” said Cllr McGowan.
