Gardai have issued a warning to drivers to slow down and not to drink or take drugs.

It follows an incident in Letterkenny earlier today when local Gardai stopped a driver doing 133kph in a 100 kph zone.

The driver was suspected to be under the influence and in possession of drugs when stopped by Gardai.

A tweet from the official Garda twitter account simply said “Next stop court.”

The warning comes as temperatures plunge across the county with Donegal County Council sending out their gritters both this evening and into tomorrow morning.

There is also a warning for severe icy roads across the county with the plunging temperatures setting in after earlier rain.

A number of vehicles ended up going off the roads and into ditches.

Thankfully there have been no reports of anybody suffering serious injuries.
