AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the alleged misappropriation of funds at The County Donegal Eduction Centre.

The Centre’s Director, Jacqui O’Reilly-Dillon, has written to schools in Donegal to confirm that an investigation is underway.

Substantial six-figure sums are believed to have been taken in recent years from the Centre, located in Donegal town, this morning’s Donegal Democrat reports.

“Having taken up the position of Director with Co. Donegal Education Centre in June 2015, it became apparent that there were financial irregularities and that funds had been misappropriated,” Ms O’Reilly-Dillon wrote in her letter.

“The DES (Department of Education and Skills) and the Gardaí were immediately notified of this.”

The County Donegal Education Centre’s management committee have appointed a team of auditors to conduct a forensic audit into the alleged fraud.

The Gardaí are also carrying out an investigation into the matter.
