Meeting to discuss wind turbines to be held in Gaoth Dobhair

A public meeting will be held in Ionad Naomh Padraig, Dore this Wednesday, 7th December at 8pm.

The meeting has been called by Stad An Tuirbín Gaoithe, the working group set-up at a previous public meeting on the 16th November to oppose the planning application by Galway company, Lir Energy Ltd, to construct a 123.5 metre blade tip height wind turbine on Udaras na Gaeltachta owned land in the heart of Gweedore.

At the meeting, the group will be putting on display the submission which they have prepared for the planning office of Donegal County Council and seeking the backing of the public on it.

Submission letters and assistance will also be available on the night for any members of the public who want to object individually to the planning application, something the group are actively encouraging. Each submission requires a fee of €20 as charged by Donegal County Council with a deadline of the 15th December for submissions.

From the scaled photo provided by the group, the planned turbine height will be 12 times higher than the former Comer Yarns building which is only 10 metres high.

Council planners are due to make their decision on the matter on the 14th January 2017.
