Turkey poses for selfie in his last days!

The feathers will be flying shortly in St Johnston on Pearson’s turkey farm as DP Foods owner Don Pearson prepares his stock for Christmas day.

Don’s farm becomes a hive of activity at this time of year, but it seems that he still takes time to get to know his feathered friends, who are only too happy to pose for a selfie. If only they knew what fate will come to them in two weeks’ time!

There are no duck face selfie poses around St. Johnston it seems – but turkey faces instead!

DP Foods best quality turkeys

“From the 10th December we literally work around the clock to make sure that the customer is provided with the most succulent freshest turkey available to anyone in Donegal,” Don said.

Whilst there are a lot cheaper foreign turkeys on the market there is still a large demand for the locally sourced product.

The turkey that will be on your table on Christmas day is the culmination of 10 months of planning and preparation, with the orders being placed for young turkeys in February.

These birds start arriving at Pearsons in mid-July and at various times right through until the middle of October. This is to ensure that there is a wide selection of weights available for all customers.

Over the years the demand for the larger turkey is decreasing, Don says. People are ordering smaller turkeys for smaller families, with the average weight being around 14lb.

“There has also been a massive increase in the demand for boneless turkey breast which keeps our butcher busy boning and rolling turkeys right up until Christmas,” Don says.

But it’s not all about turkey at Pearsons. “You can now buy your complete Christmas dinner right through from the starter to a massive range of frozen desserts. And if turkey is not your thing, we also stock locally reared geese award winning Silver Hill duckling and the tastiest of gammon. also in stock is a complete range of frozen party foods,” Don says.

Whilst the order book is filling up fast there is still time to place an order so why not give Don a ring on 0872119099 or check out his facebook page DPfoods https://www.facebook.com/DP-Foods-341888552829616/ for a complete stock list.
