The future of one of Donegal’s best-known hotels will remain in local hands after the new owner of Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey was revealed in court.

In October, Donegal Daily revealed how Tommy Gallen, the owner of the nearby Villa Rose Hotel, had purchased the premises.

The deal was finalised on Monday last when ownership was transferred from Bank of Ireland to Mr Gallen, a well-known and respected local businessman in the area.

The drinks license attached to Jackson’s Hotel was officially transferred to Rose Hospitality Ltd at Letterkenny District Court this week.

Jackson’s Hotel, which had been owned by Barry and Margaret Jackson, went into receivership in January, 2015.

It was placed on the market last August with an asking price of €2.3 million although it has not been disclosed what price the hotel has exchanged hands for.

Locals in the Twin Towns are understood to be delighted by the news as well as the safeguarding of jobs at the hotel which first opened in 1945.
