Residents in the Carrigans, St Johnston and Killea areas have expressed concern after another attempted crime in the area was prevented last night.

Three males were reported to have been disturbed in what was described as a ‘yard full of cars’ while attempting to gain entry to a shed on the outskirts of Carrigans.

“Individuals were disturbed and took off running through the fields in Dunmore between Carrigans and Killea,” a poster on the Carrigans, Killea and St Johnston Crime Prevention Facebook page said.

The incident was reported to have taken place just before midnight and came just two nights after a car in the border village of Killea was ransacked and thieves made off with two mobile phone.

Car crime in the border area has been rife over recent weeks.

“It’s terrible that people’s own valuables isn’t even safe on their own property – these people committing these crimes are the lowest of the low,” said one local.

“People in the area don’t feel safe about their stuff now and it’s no way to be left. The Gardaí need to have a bigger and better presence in these areas – if only to act as a deterrent to these criminals.”
