A man charged in connection with a massive fire in which more than €500,000 of damage was caused to buildings in Letterkenny is to be charged with a number of new offences.
Paul McGinley, appeared by videolink at this morning’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
The 30 year old, from Glen Hola, Gortahork, is charged in connection with an arson attack at an underground car park at Rosemount Lane in which a number of cars and business were allegedly damaged on September 29th.
Mr McGinley has been in custody since September when he was arrested along with another man in Letterkenny just hours after the incident.
Garda Inspector Michael Harrison told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had agreed to sent the case forward to the Circuit Court for trial.
He said there will be a number of new but related charges put to Mr McGinley relating to damage at Watson’s Menswear, O’Heir’s Bakery and the car park.
A new charge of endangerment will also be put to Mr McGinley.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian said he was concerned that the delay in the case will mean that Mr McGinley’s trial will not take place until the Autumn time.
Inspector Harrison said he was trying to liaise with State Solicitor Ciaran Liddy to having the case brought before the next sitting of the Circuit Court.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until the next sitting of Letterkenny District Court until January 20th next.
