Derry City to face Letterkenny Rovers in friendly at Maginn

DERRY CITY will play their first ‘home’ game at Maginn Park this evening when they take on Ulster Senior Legaue side Letterkenny Rovers at 7.30.

While Brandywell Stadium is undergoing a phase of redevelopment, Derry will play their home games in 2017 at the Buncrana venue.

Seats have been installed in the stand at Maginn Park while a number of other remedial works are to be carried out before the start of the new season.

This evening’s game will see Derry use the facility for the first time.

Derry manager Kenny Shiels has a number of trialists – including Belgian centre half, Bryan Van Den Bogaert, Togo midfielder, Thomas Amegnaglo and Greek midfielder Antonis Rikka.

“It’s good to get them on the pitch at Maginn Park,” Shiels told the Derry Journal.

“It will give us a good experience of that. We’re just preparing, the upheaval of not having a stadium is difficult for everyone so we’re trying to muck in. The players are just glad to be back and getting on the pitch.”

Derry have asked supporters attending this evening’s game to park at the old Fruit of the Loom factory carpark, opposite the fire station.
