AN INQUEST heard today that a driver with traces of heroin in his body had crossed the white line to the wrong side of the road before a fatal collision that resulted in the death of a Donegal man.

Father-of-one Declan Holian (30) from Ramelton in Donegal died when two lorries collided with each other on the N2 between Carrickmacross and Castleblaney in January 2016.

Declan was due to marry his fiancee, Lorraine McGarvey, last March.

He had worked for Sean Hegarty and Sons haulage company and was making a delivery to Dublin when the collision occurred.

RTÉ News reported this evening that an inquest today heard today that a driver with traces of heroin in his body had crossed the white line onto the wrong side of the road several times before the collision.

A pathologist’s report said 32-year-old Klaidas Bakanas from Carrickmacross had still multiple traces of anxiety and depressant drugs in his system after his vehicle struck and killed 30-year-old Mr Holian.
