THE NUMBER of patients without a bed and awaiting admission at Letterkenny University Hospital has more than doubled since yesterday.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) says today that 36 patients are awaiting admission at LUH this morning, with 21 of those on trolleys.
There has been a sharp increase in the number – yesterday, the INMO figure for those awaiting admission was 17.
The figure today at LUH is the second highest in the country with 41 people awaiting admission at Cork University Hospital.
The news comes after Liffordman Paul McClay told of the horror he witnessed in the A&E department at LUH during a 14-and-a-half-hour stay with his 82-year-old aunt on Tuesday night.
“They were lying everywhere. You name it, there were people on it.
“I walked around the whole of A&E. I counted 31 beds in total and countied 42 people on trollies.”
