A community activist in West Donegal has highlighted the worsening level of illegal dumping since Christmas between Falcarragh and Dunfanaghy.
It is believed that the imminent introduction has led a huge increase in illegal dumping including dead animals and all kinds of household waste and white good.
Michael McClafferty identifies the location of his complaint as ‘close to Heathfield Forest’ and the situation is now reaching crisis point.
Mr. McClafferty told the Tirconaill Tribune “This has always been a problem but then there was a lull for a while when the forest was cut down in recent years. That left those dumping their rubbish more exposed to the public view.
“The Council has kept on top of the problem as best as possible and full credit has to be given to them for that. But now it seems a free for all from dead sheep been dumped recently just a long the road in a bag. Along with that a lot of household waste and contents of all sorts including glass and a large volume of than loads of bottles.
“There are plenty bottle banks in every town now a days no matter where you live so please respect others and use them. There are children on this road both walking and on bikes and parents with buggies and dog walkers amongst others.
“Now it’s obvious people are panicking and just dumping where ever they can. I live near by this mess and I never had a problem with rats until now due to the increase in illegal dumping.
“So stop this illegal dumping nowall who are dumping because your actions are causing havoc and poses a real health threat to those of us using this road,” said Mr. McClafferty.
