A WOMAN was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital following an overnight fire in Letterkenny.

The blaze broke out in a three-storey building in the Larkin’s Lane area, just off Letterkenny’s Main Street.

Fire crews from Letterkenny and Stranorlar attended the scene.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer, Joseph McTaggart, said the fire was confined to a room in an apartment, situated just above a retail unit.

Occupants from the other three apartments in the building, one male and two females, were evacuated, but have since returned.

Another female was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire tenders left around 6 o’clock this morning.

The apartment in which the fire broke out was damaged by smoke while a stairwell was also damaged.

“We can’t say at this stage what the cause of the fire was,” Mr McTaggart said.
