Donegal was well-represented last week at Tourism Ireland’s first promotional event of 2017.

The event, which was held in Glasgow, coincided with Celtic Connections, Scotland’s premier winter music festival.

Many of the county’s leading Tourism experience providers were in attendance as well as representation from Donegal Tourism.

The event provided businesses and members of the Tourism Sector with an opportunity to meet with leading Scottish tour operators and travel agents, as well local travel and lifestyle journalists.

This Business to Business workshop and Networking Event with key travel professionals, proved to be a wonderful platform to promote our tourism offering to potential Scottish holidaymakers.

Also in attendance, as an invited guest, was one of Donegal’s favourite sons and resident of Glasgow, International Football Legend Packie Bonner, who proudly flew the Donegal flag.

A true gentleman, Packie gave much of his time during his meet and greet duties to the Donegal contingent, and while promoting Ireland in general as a Tourist destination, he paid particular attention to his native county.

Barney Mc Laughlin, Head of Donegal Tourism said “Scotland is an important market for Donegal and Celtic Connections presented Donegal with a valuable opportunity for the tourism businesses in Donegal to showcase their offering. Donegal Tourism staff were also on hand to communicate all that is unique and exciting about Donegal.

“The interest in Donegal at the moment is phenomenal, with many plaudits being bestowed, including recently named “Coolest Place on the Planet to visit in 2017” by National Geographic; being voted #1 in the Hidden Gems category of Ireland, and the new Star Wars movie being recently filmed in Malin, to name but a few.

Shandon Hotel General Manager – Carolynne Harrison networking at Celtic Connections.

“All these successes come from the hard work of all involved in making Donegal a World Class Tourist Destination and our message is clear – there has never been a better time to visit Donegal!”
