A host of Donegal competitors are revving up for this weekend’s 2017 Corrib Oil Galway International Rally.

Letterkenny’s Rory Kennedy corked the champagne at this event last year and he’s back calling the notes for Garry Jennings.

The Jennings-Kennedy combination won in Galway and are back to defend their crown in the Subaru WRC.

The Boyle cousins, Declan and Brian, are the number 2 seeds in the Fiesta WRC.

Muff native Joe McGonigle, with Falcarragh’s Ciaran Geaney, are the seventh crew on the listing in the Skoda R5.

there is a capacity entry with teams coming from Germany, China and America in addition to numerous UK and Irish crews, over 100 in total.

The event has retained its full weekend format and is expected to generate over 2,000 bed nights for hotels and guest houses.

The rally is estimated to generate approximately €5m of revenue for the local economy in Galway.

The rally will get under way with a Ceremonial Start in Eyre Square on Friday the 3rd of February at 8pm, this is following scrutineering of cars at the Galway Race Course from 2pm.

Damien Tourish and Domhnail McAlaney are competing in the Escory while Patrick mcHugh and Pauric O’Donnell are seeded at 26th, while Kilmacrennan co-driver Paddy Robinson will call the pacenotes for Daid Guest from Cork in the Evo 9.

The Donegal Motor Club Chairman Brian Brogan, with Damien McGettigan as usual riding shotgun, put in a late entry in the Escort.

Kevin Eves in the Corolla goes as does young Michael Boyle and Dermot McCafferty, while Marty Gallagher and Dean O’Sullivan are looking to pick up from a successful 2017 when they take the Pugeot to the west.

Patrick Bonner has Conor Comack alongside him in the Escort while Corey Eves and David McGuinness compete in a Corolla.
