Plans are being progressed by the National Ambulance Service to establish an Ambulance base in Buncrana.
The news has been welcomed by Sinn Fein Senator Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn.
He said “The issue of an ambulance base at Buncrana as well as the need to strengthen the ambulance service to the Inishowen peninsula overall has been raised over many years.
“I have raised this repeatedly with the HSE and the National Ambulance Service along with my colleagues Cllr Jack Murray and Albert Doherty.
“I understand that plans are currently being progressed to establish an ambulance base in Buncrana. This will be a strategic deployment working in tandem with the 24 hour ambulance base at Carndonagh.
“I regard this as a step in the right direction for Buncrana and Inishowen in terms of geographic coverage but we need to see the further strengthening of the ambulance service to the peninsula. I am hopeful that we can make further progress in this regard in the near future”.
