All four Donegal secondary schools who travelled to Athlone to for the inaugural Secondary School’s Sportshall competition came home as All-Ireland champions.

This is the first year this competition has been held and plans are in progress to make this an annual competition, showing the increased interest in this aspect of athletics.

What a day for Donegal where all four schools won their categories, showing the standard of our Donegal athletes in sportshall athletics.

The winners were: Loreto Letterkenny first year girls competition coached by Michelle Ferguson; Scoil Mhuire first year boys competition coached by Vinnie Hegarty; Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair coached by Ita Ui Ghallchoir; and the PCC boys coached by Stephen Doohan .

Standards were high on the day and the Donegal schools fought hard, remained well focussed and showed great comradeship throughout the day.

Donegal had brilliant team performances and were in top gear, what an achievement to win all four competitions, especially with the standards shown by the County Offaly and Co Clare teams.

Many thanks to Louise Gillespie and Sean Mc Ginley from the Rosses A C  who travelled to Athlone to support the Donegal teams.
