Ramelton couple Alan and Myrtle Doherty has extended her gratitude to all who donated to her appeal to help the Vesnova children’s orphanage in Belarus.

Every year the Dohertys collects nappies, children’s clothes, toiletries and vital medications to improve the lives of these children.

The orphanage cares for almost 200 children with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The lorry left Donegal this morning, and is heading to Kilkenny to be have the goods sorted. The truck will be heading for Belarus on the seventh of April by drivers of the Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group.

Myrtle says; “Alan and I would like to say a massive massive thank you to everyone who came to help us load the lorry this morning.

“A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our appeal.

“We sent 64,000 nappies, a few thousand bags of clothes and shoes and teddies, and bedding along with several dozen boxes of toiletries and wipes and vital medications.

“An overwhelming response as always! That’s it for another year.”

Most of the children at the orphanage were affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.

Chernobyl Children International have transformed this asylum from a place of hopelessness into a caring home for many children over the past 15 years.
