UPDATE: Gardaí investigate late night assault on woman in Ballyshannon

Gardaí are investigating an assault which occurred during the early hours of this morning in Ballyshannon.

It is believed that a woman was knocked unconscious by another woman at approximately 2:30am on Market Street. The woman has been taken to Sligo University Hospital.

The 25-year-old’s injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.

No details surrounding the nature of the assault have been released yet.

The Scenes of Crime Officers have attended the scene.

Tir Chonaill Street and Market Street had been closed off to traffic to allow Gardaí to conduct their investigation.

These streets have since been re-opened.

Gardaí are currently investigating the incident and conducting inquiries.
