Protest vigil planned for Letterkenny University Hospital

A vigil is being planned at Letterkenny University Hospital to protest against the current heath crisis.

Organisers say the event will take place on Thursday next, February 16th, and they are urging as many people as possible to attend.

They say the vigil is in memory of those who have suffered and are still suffering as a result of the Government and The Health Service.

Organisers are urging people to take candles and pictures and to “remember those who have suffered and are still suffering.”

A spokesman said they are calling on all people on waiting lists, on trollies and awaiting pay restoration to support their cause

“We call on the people to support all those who are Still Waiting as a result of the health service.”

The group said it is advocating for:

1 The resignation of the health minister, Simon Harris who has been complicit with the falsifying of waiting list numbers.

2 The government immediately takes radical intervention in order to raise Hospital bed numbers to the European average. (In effect a doubling of the number of beds)

3 Radically increase the numbers of Nurses and frontline staff. We cannot attract nowhere near the number of frontline staff needed within the current pay structures and appalling work conditions that Nurses and Health workers are expected to work.
