Dungloe man advances to European Championship quarter-finals

Shaun Sharkey from Dungloe is through to the semi-finals of the European 8-ball Pool Championships.

The singles event, taking place in Blackpool, attracted over 250 players from throughout Europe, but Shaun has become one of the last four standing, thanks to a series of scintillating displays.

In his last eight match he recovered from a 4-2 deficit against England’s Josh Kane to reel off 5 frames without reply and spark great scenes among the other Irish players and supporters.

Despite being a relative youngster in pool terms at only 25 years of age, Shaun has represented his country with distinction for quite a few years now, and was a member of last year’s victorious Home Nations Championships.

Shaun’s friends and family and all the patrons of Owenie’s Bar in Dungloe (run by Shaun’s parents, Finnian and Bridie) will be eagerly awaiting news of tomorrow’s (Friday) semi-final clash which is due to start at 11 am.
