A call has been made to provide funding to replace the barrier along the Milford to Kerrykeel Road.

Cllr. Jimmy Kavanagh told Letterkenny Municipal Authority that the barrier was broken in places and was below the road in some parts and not fit for purpose.

In addition to the road safety aspect of the issue, Cllr. Kavanagh said that the condition of the barrier was also preventing the Kerrykeel tidy towns from progressing a walkway underneath the barrier that would enhance the area for both tourists and locals.

The group could not currently get planning for their project because of the state of the barrier.

The council informed Cllr. Kavanagh that there was no funding available to replace the barrier and that the cost would be €75,000.

However, Cllr. Kavanagh asked the council to try and identify one off funding to get it replaced and suggested that the barrier could be replaced in sections and the council could start by prioritising the section that is holding back the tidy towns project.

Cllr. Kavanagh’s motion was seconded by Cllr. Liam Blaney who said that the section being referred to, could be replaced for €25,000.
