There is widespread sadness across Donegal today at the death of the co-founder of the Little Angels Association, school and hostel, Philomena (Phil) Murray.

Phil passed away peacefully at her home at Glenbank, Middle Road, Ballyraine, Letterkenny.

Mrs Murray (nee Barry, Holyhill, Cork) is survived by her husband Dr John Murray, daughter Roni (England), sons Barry (Glenmire, Cork), Johnny and Emmet (Letterkenny), sister Rosarie Devenney (Dublin) daughters-in-law Claudia, Blanaid and Orla.

Phil was predeceased by her daughter Fiona.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Claire, Karen, Emmet, Orla and Blanaid and great grandchild Robin.

A fine pianist, she was also a former lady captain of both Portsalon and Letterkenny Golf Clubs.

But it is her dedication and trojan work in setting up the Little Angels Association with husband Dr Murray for which Phil will be most fondly remembered and admired.

A large attendance is expected at her funeral mass which takes place at the Church of the Irish Martyrs on Sunday at 3pm with burial afterwards to the family plot at Conwal Cemetery.

Phil’s remains will repose at her home between 11am and 9pm tomorrow (Saturday) with family time on the morning of her funeral. Family flowers only please with donations in lieu to Fiona House c/o undertaker Pascal Blake.

The main celebrant of Phil’s funeral mass will be Fr Brian Quinn with music by the Hennessey Sisters.

Donegal Daily would like to express our sympathies to Phil’s family on her sad passing.
