Tributes have been paid to former Donegal soccer administrator Roy Wikie, who died yesterday in Letterkenny University Hospital.
From Ballyholy in Raphoe, Mr Wilkie served as PRO, Administrator and Fixtures Secretary of the Donegal League during a 21-year reign from 1983 to 2004.
“He transformed the whole Donegal League,” said his good friend and former Donegal League colleague Dessie Kelly this morning.
“He was the man with all of the ideas. Roy mightn’t have had authority as such, but he could do anything and he took the Donegal League into the computer era.
“He was a genius on the computer and he was self-taught. He really brought the League forward; he was a brilliant man for football and he was a great friend to me over the years.”
Since birth, Roy suffered from muscular dystrophy and was a wheelchair user.
From his home in Ballyholy, he ran the Donegal League’s affairs for over two decades and will be sadly missed.
Remains are reposing at his late residence. Funeral service at his late residence on Friday 24th February at 1.30pm with burial afterwards in the family plot at Ray Presbyterian Church, Manorcunningham.
