The Government has given the go-ahead for 17 new homes in Carrigart in a €3M boost to Donegal’s social housing stock, Minister Joe McHugh has announced today.

The Donegal TD says he is delighted with the go-ahead for the scheme.

“Approval in principal is being given for 17 news homes in Carrigart,” said Minister McHugh today.

“Once again this shows the commitment of the Government to the provision of social housing and affordable housing schemes here in Donegal.

“Formal notice to Donegal County Council will be issued in the next few days.

“Total funding for the scheme is more than €3 Million.”

The €3,010,174 provisional budget is being approved under the Government’s Local Authority Housing Construction Programme.

“I am delighted with this news as it will provide much-needed local authority housing in the Carrigart area,” added the Donegal TD.

“It follows provision of funding for the purchase of 21 new homes in Stranorlar earlier this month with capital funding of €2.7 Million for that scheme, bringing the total between Carrigart and Stranorlar to more than €5.7 Million.

“I’d like to thank my Ministerial colleague Simon Coveney for approving this latest scheme in Carrigart which will also provide employment in the area during the construction phase.”

Fine Gael area representative Noel McBride said: “This is fantastic news today for the Carrigart area.

“I am delighted funding has been made available for this housing project and it means the planning stage can now begin and everyone will hope this can now move quickly once the planning phase is completed to everyone’s satisfaction.”
