Rising Donegal ace Ciaran Thompson has been voted GAA.ie Footballer of the Week.

Thompson, who has impressed for Donegal in the Allianz Football League, earned 2,368 votes with Paul Geaney in second and Philly McMahon in third place.

The GAA.ie Footballer of the Week is decided by votes cast on the GAA’s Official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages.

Thompson has been in excellent form so far in the League for Donegal and kicked five points on Saturday night in a Man of the Match display in the 1-16 to 0-11 win over Cavan at Kingspan Breffni Park.

“Ciaran has had a top-class start to the League,” Donegal manager Rory Gallagher said of the Naomh Conaill clubman.

“We brought him into the Under-21s in 2014. We spent a lot of time and he’s been in the senior panel since 2015. He was unfortunate to pick up an injury, but he knuckled down and worked very hard

“He has an awful lot of quality and he’s brilliant at kicking scores.”
