The new Glenties Enterprise Centre Project is now expected to be completed by October.

It follows confirmation that procurement documents for works to complete the new building are shortly due to go out to tender.

Deputy Pearse Doherty has today welcomed the confirmation received from the Donegal Local Enterprise Office.

The news comes following it having been announced only last November that some €200,000 had been secured for the project through the Rural Economic Development Zones (REDZ) Initiative, which aims to improve links between rural towns and stimulate local economic activity.

Welcoming this latest development, Deputy Doherty said “Following having made representations to the Local Enterprise ‘Fiontar’ Offices here in Donegal to query the status of the Glenties project, I am delighted to have received confirmation this week that the plans are progressing well and that the management team expects to place the work out to tender shortly.

“I understand that the actual work to complete the centre should be completed within 4 months at the most, and the local team are hopeful that the centre will be finished and works completed by October this year.

“This is obviously fantastic news for the local area and, once finished, the centre will enable the local community to utilise the facility as well as existing supports to stimulate and foster local enterprise and job creation.

“Full credit and praise for getting this ambitious project to this stage must go to the local community here in Glenties where, thanks to their determination, enthusiasm, dedication and the sheer hard work of local community leaders in the town, the centre will shortly be up and ready to be enjoyed and utilised by the entire community.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with all those involved in the project here in Glenties, and I am very much looking forward to visiting the centre once completed in the not too distant future.”
