Listen: “It wasn’t good enough” says Ollie Horgan as Finn Harps draw with Galway

Ollie Horgan was certainly the picture of a relieved man as his Finn Harps, somehow, managed to hold on to claim a point against Galway United.

By Chris McNulty at Finn Park

For long periods, especially in the second half, Galway pinned Harps back and the Tribesmen hit the woodwork three times.

Galway saw former Harps loanee Kevin Devaney cancel out Sean Houston’s opening goal and it was something of a miracle that Harps left with a share of the spoils.

“I’d say they’re scratching their heads at how they didn’t get three points,” Horgan admitted.

“It was a point gained, without a shadow of doubt. Maybe we had the wee bit of luck that we didn’t have last week. Galway were outstanding in the second half and created chance-after-chance.

“It was a pity that we didn’t drive on at one-nil up, but we weren’t good enough to drive on.”

Houston – pictured above by North West News Pix – fired Harps in front on 28 minutes, but Devaney drew Galway level in the first minute of the second half.

And while Harps secured their first point of the new season, Horgan felt that the game was something of a reality check for his side.

He said: “We will need to be a hell of a lot better to stay in the Division. We will need to accumulate a hell of a lot more points here to have any hope.

“Overall, it wasn’t good enough and we have to improve – but everyone in there realises that.

“We didn’t deserve any more than a point and we didn’t deserve a point. We had a bit of luck that we didn’t have last week. They could have been four or five-one up, but we got away with it.
