Gardai were last night called to a major disturbance on Letterkennny’s Main Street which resulted in one man being knocked unconscious.

The incident happened just after 2am outside Hillbillies Fastfood Takeaway.

A major disagreement between two factions resulted in a mass brawl at the junction with Oliver Plunkett Road.

An ambulance and two Garda units were rushed to the scene as the brawl involving more than a dozen people continued onto the town’s Lower Main Street.

Eye-witnesses told Donegal Daily that one man was knocked unconscious and this was followed by an incident during which another man was set upon by five other males who kicked him in the body and head several times.

Gardai spoke to a number of people at the scene of the incident when they arrived.

However, it is not understood that any arrests were made.

One passer-by said “It is absolutely frightening to be on our Main Street in the early hours of the morning at weekends.

“I watched in absolute horror tonight as a young man was repeatedly kicked in the body and head by several other people.

“Even more frightening was the fact that a lot of it was instigated by a young woman. It was absolutely terrifying.

“There is no question that this type of behaviour is going to end in tragedy and somebody is going to be seriously hurt or killed.”
