Donegal County Council, Cathaoirleach Cllr. Terence Slowey and Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr. Barry O’Neill represented Donegal as they attended the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday last.

This parade, which is in its 247th year and which is among one of the oldest parades in the United States, was led by well known Donegal man and Milford native Barney Boyce.

The delegation also met with members of the Philadelphia Donegal Association whose current President is Frank McDonnell.

Also present at the St. Patricks Day Parade in Philadelphia on Sunday was Minister for the Diaspora & Overseas Development Joe McHugh, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Irish Consul General to New York Barbara Jones who also met with the Donegal delegation.

During their visit to Philadelphia, the delegation met with representatives of the Irish American Philadelphia Business Chamber who expressed their willingness and determination to establish a working relationship with Donegal County Council through its founder and Chairperson, Mr. William McLaughlin.

Cllrs. Slowey and O’Neill said they are very pleased with this development and the opportunity of establishing a key relationship going forward with the Irish American Philadelphia Business Chamber whose members include Industry, Health and Higher Education sectors.

The delegation will be travelling later this week to New York and Boston to participate in the St. Patricks Day Parades in these cities and will meet with various Donegal Associations and the extended Donegal community in the US.
