TEAMWORK, embracing new diagnostic procedures, providing the best possible clinical care, whilst always retaining a rich legacy for providing professional and compassionate support to patients and their families.

These are enumerate traits that have been the hallmark of the Scally-McDaid Medical Practice in Letterkenny since its inception in 1957.

The practice is one of the best known and respected in Donegal and has developed from humble beginnings at High Road, to a thriving state-of-the-art medical clinic in the heart of the county’s busiest urban-gateway centre.

As part of continuing developments the busy practice has just added a third doctor, Dr Ciaran Roarty, and in the last weeks has taken on a second nurse.

A new Ante-Natal Ultra Sound Scanning Service is being provided as the ‘team’ roll out a range of new developments. From this week patients, service users, clients and suppliers should note the new telephone number for the practice is (074-91-64111).

The Scally practice has provided care to generations of families in the Letterkenny and north Donegal area since the early ‘50’s.

It was set up by husband and wife duo, the late Dr. Paddy Scally and Dr. Maureen Bonar Scally 60- years ago.

They operated a surgery at High Road before moving to Castle Street and in recent years to the highly impressive Scally Practice at Justice Walsh Road.

The practice has a rich legacy for professional and compassionate care/support to patients and their families through the dedicated team of Dr. Dara Scally and Dr. James McDaid, a former government minister.

Dr. McDaid is a founder of the Donegal Hospice and has played a pivotal role in its development since 1989.

At a purpose built building in restful grounds at Knocknamona a multi disciplinary team of professionals support the medical and nursing staff in palliative care to the residents of its six bedrooms and two apartments.

Dr. Dara Scally, is a daughter of the founding partners and is widely respected in the medical field as an astute, experienced professional clinician with a warm friendly manner.

“Dr Dara is a great family doctor. She is thoroughly professional and has a sharp clinical intellect and with her strong family background in medical practice is able to draw on a wealth of experience and knowledge to help patients and their families,” one patient said this week.

“As a GP she is caring, understanding and compassionate but leaves no stone unturned to ensure patients get the best possible help and care,”

Dr. Ciaran Roarty also recently joined the staff. A native of Manorcunningham he specialises in Paediatrics, Obstetrics Ultra Sound and Chronic Disease Management, i.e Type 2 Diabetes and COPD etc.

He is a graduate of NUI Galway and trained in Galway and Sligo University Hospitals and has worked in recent years at Letterkenny University Hospital and a number of general practices’ in Donegal.

Patients of the Scally-McDaid Medical Practice can always rest assured the ‘team’ is always on hand to care for them in the time of need.

There is a saying ‘good doctors treat illness; great doctors treat patients’ and it couldn’t be more apt in the case of this excellent medical practice.

Patients are asked to note you can contact us via one of the following options 074-91-64111 directly or 074-91-21955 and press ‘1.
