Unlucky Seamus Coleman is due to be released from hospital today after suffering a horrific leg break last weekend.
The Killybegs man received the sympathy of the nation after being forced off against Wales in Friday night’s World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill visited the Everton star yesterday and said he was in good form.
“Seamus is doing much better today. I went to see him again. He’s in better spirits. It’s as much to do with (the fact that) he’s still got the family around — his brother, his wife, his mother and the youngster all keeping him pretty busy.
“I think he’s doing much better now. It’s not something you’re going to get over in 24 hours, 36 hours. He’s in much better spirits.
“He’s getting out (of hospital) tomorrow I think. It’s encouraging to see. He’s very positive, which I knew he would be. It’s a tough injury. Could he get over it? If anybody can quickly, then Seamus can do that.”
It was even revealed that President Michael D Higgins had dropped in on Seamie to see how he was progressing following his injury.
It is thought unlikely that Coleman will make a comeback until 2018.
