Donegal-Cavan Ulster U21 semi-final is called off after late pitch inspection

This evening’s EirGrid Ulster Under-21 Football Championship semi-final between Donegal and Cavan at Brewster Park has been called off due to waterlogged pitch.

Referee Sean Laverty carried out a pitch inspection just over half-an-hour before the 8 o’clock throw-in time.

The ball was sticking in the soft surface as the Antrim official attempted to bounce it.

It was clear even by walking on the pitch that the game would be in grave doubt after persistent rainfall in Enniskillen all day.

A large crowd had already gathered at the Fermanagh venue, but supporters have been advised that they can gain admission to the re-fixed game if they collect a ticket on their exit from the ground.

The other semi-final between Armagh and Derry, due to be played at Healy Park in Omagh, has also fallen foul to the weather.
