Calling all schools in Donegal – Relay for Life really needs your help!
Cancer affects every family and for this reason we here at Donegal Daily are delighted to have teamed up with ‘Relay for Life Donegal’ in a novel fundraising idea called the ‘1for1@1 Schools Challenge.’
Unfortunately, cancer does affect every family either directly or indirectly and it is for that reason that we, together with Robert O’Connor and his committee at Relay for Life Donegal, are asking every school in Donegal for your help.
The challenge will run from Monday, 1st to Friday, 19th of May.
Between those dates we are asking schools from Malin Head to Bundoran and from Lifford to Arranmore Island to choose a day and at one o’clock to carry out your challenge and when completed we ask you to hand in one euro per child to the school- hence the name 1@1for 1!
If there is more than one child in the family one euro per family is all we are asking.
Your school chooses the challenge, whether it’s walking around the school yard for one kilometre, a mannequin challenge, a singing or dancing challenge or indeed your school could possibly do a challenge that could go viral so over the Easter holidays put your thinking caps on.
What we would really love you all to do is to challenge a school in your area to do the same and we will put your requested challenge here on Donegal Daily.
If at all possible we would like all schools to do a one-minute recording of your challenge and to send it to :- relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com, and they in turn will forward it to us at Donegal Daily.
As you can appreciate it would be impossible to put every single video up on our site but if you also include a photograph we will ensure that all photos will be posted. ( please note that Relay for Life will show all videos on a large screen during this year’s event).
Why you may ask?
A massive Research Programme is currently underway at Letterkenny University Hospital which when complete will determine how cancer survivors can live healthier and happier lives. It is vitally important that our cancer survivors are also looked after and when completed this research will have far reaching consequences not just for survivors here in Donegal but indeed nationally and globally. The cost of the research programme is approximately €100,000 and every single euro raised this year at Relay for Life will go towards the cost. That’s the reason your euro is so important to us.
Are you up for the Challenge?
Already having talked to various schools that we know through committee members we have a number of schools on board and we would love to add your school name to that list so please say yes to our request. Keep in touch with Donegal Daily for this challenge and will remind you as we approach the countdown date which is May 1st.
Thanking you in advance and if you have any queries please phone – Robert O’Connor on (087) 2716344 or Seamus Mc Bride on (087) 2289477 or email relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com
