Eoghan Ban Gallagher followed in his father’s footsteps last night by winning the Ulster Under-21 title.

Donegal blitzed Derry by 13 points in the final at The Athletic Grounds as goals from Lorcan Connor, Ethan O’Donnell and Michael Carroll earned a 3-17 to 0-13 triumph.

Gallagher is the Donegal joint captain alongside Tony McClenaghan.

In 1987, John Ban Gallagher was in the half-back line for Donegal’s Under-21s in a 1-11 to 0-8 final win over Monaghan in Irvinestown.

Last night, Eoghan Ban, alongside McClenaghan, took receipt of the Irish News Cup.

“It’s a great feeling,” he said.

“It was unbelievable. It’s great to get over the line. It was great. Some of the team moves in the second half; we broke with real pace and numbers.”

“We knew how to use the spare man.
