Vital equipment taken from stolen fire engine found by Gardai

Safety equipment stolen from a fire engine which was taken from Stranorlar Fire Station has been recovered.

The life-saving equipment, estimated to be worth more than €30,000, was found today in woods near Killygordan.

A total of around 15 different items, including cutting gear, was amongst the haul recovered by Gardai.

Although Gardai have raided at least one premises, no arrests have yet been made.

The equipment was found at Meenogland, about two miles form where the fire engine had been abadoned on Monday, April 3rd.

The €4000,000 Scania firetruck was taken from Stranorlar Fire staiton in the middle of the night and found around 8am at Monellan Road.

Both the PSNI and the Gardai are exmainig CCTV footage of the robbery and subsequent ‘joyride’ using the fire engine.

It is believed the thieves operated both the sirens an flashing lights on the vehicle when it was taken.

No arrests have yet been made in relation to the theft of the fire engine.
