Letterkenny’s Fred Daly team traveled to Royal Portrush for the first match of this year’s championship and acquitted themselves highly.

Royal Portrush had a strong team consisting of a 1, a 3 and three 5 handicap players.

Letterkenny led by Patrick Page played a fine game but went down 4/3 to under par golf from his opponent.

A birdie at the tough 18th saw Cian Harkin at the wrong end of a 2up Portrush win. Michael Shiel found many regulation fairways and greens but great play by his Portrush opponent recorded a 7/5 win. Match of the day saw Ronan Daly 1up playing the 18th but a troublesome fairway bunker skuppered his chances and a halve match was recorded.

In the final match, Christian Harris, 12 years of age, on his debut for the Letterkenny Fred Daly team showed he has a great game for the future. Pars at the first three holes saw him go 2up against his 5 handicap q gt5zs beyuPortrush opponent. But local knowledge prevailed with a 4/3 victory secured for Portrush.

Letterkenny’s lads played a standard of golf that will ensure the Portrush boys treat the return leg seriously at tree lined Barnhill on Sunday 23rd April.

Thanks is expressed to all at Royal Portrush golf club for the superb treatment and hospitality that was afforded to the Letterkenny team.

Match result – Royal Portrush 4 1/2 to Letterkenny 1/2.

At the Wednesday Open 05/04/17 Jackie Duffy had a great win scoring 43 pts. with 1 birdie and 5 pars. Tony Duffy was hot on his heels with 41 pts, the winter golfing is now paying dividents for Tony. Paddy O’ Leary came in with a very decent 40 pts. claiming third place.

The Saturday Open 08/04/17 saw Patrick Mc Grath scoring 38 pts winning with 4 pars and beating Derek Wilson b.o.t. Anthony Delap came in third with 37 pts (b.o.t.) and Patrick Page scored 33 Grs. pts.

Brian Mc Ateer won the Sunday Members Competition 09/04/17 scoring 39 pts. with 1 birdie and 8 pars beating Tony Logue who scored 38 pts. b.o.t. Jamie Foley came in with 34 Grs. pts.

The Wednesday evening 9 hole competition is becoming popular again and was won by Eamonn O’ Carroll with 20 pts.

The Monday night Cat 4 Competitions run by Gerry Sullivan was won by Columba Crawford with 19 pts.
