DUNGLOE CAME GOOD in the last 12 or so minutes to inflict defeat on a Milford team who were contesting their first ever home fixture in the All-County Football League Division 1.

The home side at Moyle View were 1-10 to 0-9 in front on 58 minutes when Cathal McGettigan pointed a free. However, Dungloe, on their third trek from three in the top flight, never pressed the panic button and that composure took them over the line in the end.
Six points in the bounce as they swamped Milford at centre-field from Caolan McGettigan’s kick-outs did the trick for the team from Rosses Park.
Conor Greene scored twice, Noel McBride brought his total from the day from three to five with a couple of points and the impressive pair of Cory Gallagher and Gerard Walsh did the damage.
That meant that Patrick McGowan’s team had got in front, 0-15 to 1-10 and although Cathal McGettigan pulled one back and then missed a very long free free to level it in injury time, a late penalty from Ryan Greene – over the bar – sealed Dungloe’s second away win of the campaign.
Christy Greene led the breakaway and he was pulled down. Milford’s defenders, with some justification it must be noted, appealed to state the infringement was outside the square. Seamus McGonigle, the match referee, was insistent though it was a penalty.
With what proved to be the last kick of the contest and a point to the good, Ryan Greene didn’t take the chance on a rebound and possible last chance foray for Milford, so was content to kick the penalty over the crossbar.
The loss would’be been a disappointment to Milford, who defeated Bundoran on the road and gave heavyweights St Eunan’s and Niamh Conaill runs for their money this term so far.
At half-time Milfored were 1-7 to 0-7 in front, with the difference between the teams being an excellently crafted goal by Tony McNamee, Christopher Barrett and Gary Merritt, with McNamee setting up Cathal McGettigan to score from close range on 28 minutes.
Beforehand, on seven minutes, Cathal McGettigan in the Milford goal had made a fine stop from Conor Greene.
Cathal McGettigan would score 1-5 in all and a measure of Milford’s efficiency was the fact when he pulled one wide on 34 minutes, it was the hosts’ first wide of the game.
Dungloe perhaps edged the first half and hit five wides, so knew they weren’t too far away. McBride scored five points in all to keep them in touch and pumped the ball in when they could to Conor Greene in the second half.
