Thumbs up from Harps ‘keeper Harry Doherty after horror head clash

Finn Harps goalkeeper Harry Doherty was bearing the scars of battle at Letterkenny University Hospital last night.

Doherty was involved in a horror head clash with team-mate Packie Mailey during Harps’ EA Sports Cup game against Sligo Rovers.

The game was stopped for 25 minutes following the incident, which happened in the 69th minute.

Both players were taken to hospital for assessment. Mailey, after a period of treatment, was able to walk into the clubhouse, but Doherty remained on the pitch, where he was attended to.

Harps stewards had to wash blood off the pitch and Harps manager Ollie Horgan cut an upset figure as he checked on his players.

Cockhill man Doherty needed seven stitched in a head wound – but gave the thumbs up from his hospital bed!
