DYMT (Donegal Youth Musical Theatre) are delighted to announce that their first production will be Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit ‘Phantom of the Opera’.

The North West premier of this longest running Broadway musical will be staged in An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny from 10th to 12th August. Applications are now open for cast members to be a part of the hotly-anticipated production.

DYMT is Donegal’s first county-wide musical theatre company for young people aged 12- 21, who produce high standard West End musicals within the county, with the finest talent from across the North-West.

DYMT offer young people the chance to experience the musical theatre industry; as they rehearse over a three week block of intensive summer rehearsals before staging a high-class production in An Grianan Theatre.

The DYMT Creative Team for this 2017/18 season is made up of four experienced County Donegal natives, who have just come off the huge success of the sell-out Les Miserables in Donegal Town in January.

Director, Séimí Campbell, has directed Bosco Productions’ musicals and pantomimes for the past 6 years including the recent Les Misérables, as well as founding Trinity Musical Theatre Society (TMT) and most recently directing their production of West Side Story in the O’Reilly Theatre, Dublin.

Last year, Séimí worked with YMT UK; on the production team as Assistant Musical Director of ‘Trojan Women’ along side West End directors Francis Goodhand and Stuart Harvey in the Barbican Theatre, and is delighted to be teaching Musical Theatre on Trinity College Dublin’s Masters of Music and Drama Education (M.Ed) programme this summer.

Musical Director for this year is Dunkineely native, Herta Kelly, graduate of DIT Conservatoire of Music and Drama. Herta is known as one of the county’s finest musical directors, working as MD on Annie, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamboat, Beauty and the Beast, the Sound of Music, the Wizard of Oz, and of course, Les Miserables, to name but a few.

Amy Jordan fills the dancing shoes of choreographer for the project. Amy was Assistant Producer of GUM’s production of RENT and Choreographer for The Wedding Singer, Galway, before returning home to choreograph Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Les Miserables in Donegal.

And finally, to add colour and life to the company, Sinead O’Donnell Carey joins the team as Head of Design. Sinead has deigned many shows across the country, including the North-West premier of An Triail in the Abbey Arts Centre, and Marian and Joseph in the Samuel Beckett, Dublin. Having studied Performing Arts with Design, she starts a MA in Film and Theatre Studies in NUI Galway in September.

Auditions for Phantom of the Opera will be staged across the North West on 29th/ 30th April 2017. All applicants must be aged between 12 -21 years and send in an Audition Application form to DYMT before 24th April. Forms can be downloaded on DYMT’s Facebook page or on request from donegalyouthmusicaltheatre@gmail.com.
