Minister Joe McHugh said he is delighted at plans for upgraded facilities at Ramelton and Stranorlar Community Hospitals.

He was speaking following a meeting between the SOS Group and HSE Manager John Hayes in Ballybofey on Wednesday which he attended.

And Deputy McHugh said he stands over all he said in his statement on the future of the hospitals after the promise of a €4 million cash injection.

He said “I want to pay tribute to all those involved in the SOS Group for their tireless efforts on behalf of the communities of Ramelton, Stranorlar and Lifford.

“I am happy to stand by everything contained in my statement last week and I am happy to remind everyone of its contents; all of which was reiterated by Mr Hayes to those who really care about the future of our community hospitals, the SOS Group.

“The long-term future of Ramelton and St Joseph’s is contained in the HSE proposals. Work on a report on Lifford is continuing.

“Once again I have vowed to work so that there is a future for the Lifford Community Hospital campus.”
